摘    要：This paper focuses on linguistic synesthesia in Chinese from a diachronic perspective. Based on the commonly and frequently-used sensory adjectives whose contemporary predominant sensory usages are different from their original sensory meanings in Chinese, this study finds that diachronic transfers of linguistic synesthesia largely obey the tendencies of the synchronic transfers of Mandarin synesthesia. In addition, this study shows that the diachronic transfers of linguistic synesthesia in Chinese are grounded in the perceived similarity, the sensory association, and onomatopoeia. Furthermore, given the similarities and differences between diachronic and synchronic transfers of linguistic synesthesia in Chinese, this paper highlights the important research value of diachronic examination of linguistic synesthesia.
