标题：ERP reveals L1-L2 semantic co-activation of homographs during L1 processing in unbalanced bilinguals

摘要：This study employed both behavioral measurements and eventrelated potential (ERP) techniques to examine whether, and when, unbalanced Chinese-Japanese bilinguals access both the first language (L1) and second language (L2) semantics of homographs simultaneously. Both the bilingual group and the monolingual group (control group) were engaged in a Chinese semantic relatedness judgment task, with Japanese homographs embedded in some word pairs as an implicit experimental manipulation. Results revealed that within the bilingual group, Chinese semantically related word pairs and Japanese semantically related word pairs (both with homograph primes) elicited comparable N400 amplitudes. However, they exhibited significant differences in LPC responses. This electrophysiological evidence identifies a precise time window (300–450 ms) during which L1 and L2 semantics co-activate, offering novel empirical support for core principles of translanguaging theory.
